Eric Ouellette – PipingEric began piping in 1998 at age 9. He played with the Manchester Pipe Band and then for many years with the Oran Mor Pipe Band, during which he served as Pipe Sergeant twice. He currently plays with the Grade 1 Inveraray and District Pipe Band in Scotland.  Eric has been competing internationally at the solo professional level since age 16. A brief list of accomplishments include: first place in piobaireachd at both the George Sherriff invitational in Ontario (2003) and the Nicol Brown invitational (2004), 3rd in the MacGregor Memorial in Oban (2005), 3rd in the US silver medal at Kansas City (2006), 1st in the B piobaireachd at Perth (2013. 2014 & 2015), 1st in the open marches at Perth (2013), 1st in the B strathspey and reel at Oban (2014), aggregate at Blairgowrie (2015), and countless other domestic prizes and aggregates.

Derek Midgley – PipingDerek is a professional bagpiper who moved to Glasgow, Scotland for four years and has returned to bring home what he has learned. He is a full time piping instructor based in New Jersey. Derek has played with City of Washington Pipe Band, Toronto Police Pipe Band, and most recently, Scottish Power Pipe Band. Derek’s formidable list of solo piping accomplishments has been lengthened by a stellar 2016 season, in which he has won the Royal Scottish Piping Society’s Bronze Medal for Piobaireachd at the Lochearnhead Highland Games and the Dunvegan Medal at the Skye Gathering in Scotland. Open March, Strathspey/Reel and Overall Winner, Dornoch Highland Games, 2016

June Hanley – PipingJune has been piping since she was fourteen years old. Her pipe band career began with the Charlotte Scottish Pipe Band and the Grandfather Mountain Highlanders, and she now plays with the Ulster Pipe Band as instructor and with the City of Dunedin Pipe Band. She serves on the EUSPBA judging panel for piping and ensemble. She has served the EUSPBA as President, Executive Secretary and Recording Secretary. She currently serves as Music Board chair, manages the judges’ testing program, and has organized the Premier Professional Piping contests for the EUSPBA in 2015 and 2016.

Dave Hall
– PipingDave began learning to play the pipes in 1967 at the age of five. He has spent his entire piping career as a member of Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, and has served as the Pipe Major of the band for the past thirteen years.  Dave won numerous professional solo prizes in his early piping career. He now serves as an EUSPBA piping and ensemble judge.

Duncan Bell – Piping – Duncan began learning pipes at a young age from his father, PM George M. Bell.  He rose in solo piping to become a prize winning professional piping competitor. Duncan’s extensive pipe band experience includes serving as Pipe Sergeant of Parlin and District Pipe Band for many years. Duncan serves the EUSPBA as a piping and ensemble judge.

Steven McWhirter – SnareSteven began drumming in 1993 at age 10. He played with Cullybackey Pipe Band from 1994 until 2001. Between the years of 2002 to 2008 he travelled from his home in Northern Ireland to compete, teach and perform with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band in British Columbia, Canada. In 2008 Steven and world renowned piper Stuart Liddell joined forces to run the Inveraray & District Pipe Band, which placed 2nd in Grade 1 at the 2016 World Pipe Band Championships. In addition to a huge list of solo drumming accomplishments, Steven is a six-time World Solo Drumming Champion, having won first in 2006 and then consecutively from 2011 through 2015.

Derek Cooper – SnareDerek is a member of the Grade 1 Inveraray & District Pipe Band from Scotland. He is also the drumming instructor and lead drummer for Ulster Scottish Pipe Band. During his time with SFU, Derek won the Grade I World Pipe Band Championships as well as the best drum corps prize twice. Derek’s vast solo drumming accomplishments include winning the North American Gold Medal Snare Drumming Championship at Winterstorm in Kansas City six times, and being the only American to ever make the finals at the World Drumming Championships in Scotland.

Eric Knudsen – Snare – Eric began learning snare drum at a young age from John Murray. Eric played with the Delmar & District Pipe Band at its inception at age 12; his pipe band experience also includes the City of Wilmington Pipe Band, First Highland Watch, and Ulster Scottish Pipe Band. Eric has taught many snare drummers in his years with Ulster, having served as lead drummer as well as instructor of the grade 4/5 band.

Michael O’Neil – TenorMike began playing the drums in 1994. He joined the Prince Charles Pipe Band of San Francisco in 1996. In 2000, he won the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2 with the Prince Charles band and obtained the best bass section prize as well. In 2006 he joined the RMM II pipe band of Vancouver and went on to win the 2006 World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2. In the fall of 2006 he joined the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and in 2008/9 won the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 1 as well as the best drum corps prize. On the solo circuit Mike has been the WUSPBA solo champion on many occasions and he is a two-time winner of the gold medal tenor event at Winterstorm in Kansas City.

Christina Hanks – BassChristina began in the Scottish arts at the age of 7 as a highland dancer. Christina’s involvement in pipe bands started as a tenor drummer with the Manchester Pipe Band. Christina played bass with the Oran Mor Pipe Band for 11 years as they moved from Grade 2 to Grade 1. Currently, she is a tenor drummer with the Grade One 78th Fraser Highlanders from Ontario, Canada. Christina is also an accomplished solo bass and tenor competitor. She is currently serving her apprenticeship on her path to becoming an EUSPBA tenor and bass drumming judge.

Linda Hall – Tenor & Bass – Linda began learning tenor drum in 1986 and several years later began learning bass drum. She has spent her entire pipe band career with Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, serving as either the bass drummer or a tenor drummer.  Linda is a prize winning professional solo tenor and bass competitor, as well as an EUSPBA tenor & bass drumming judge and ensemble judge.
